Emma the Musical
2018
Emma – The Musical will be directed by Chie Floresca with music direction by Erica Cawagas.
Emma – The Musical is set in rural town Naguilian near Baguio City, on the cusp of the Japanese occupation of 1942. The story focuses on the endearing character of an elementary school teacher – Emma, who must make a series of difficult choices between the peaceful life that she struggles to live and the war that rages around her; between the love of her newly devoted husband and the protective advances of a Japanese official; and between risking her own personal safety to protect her fellow countrymen or hiding in the shadows to safeguard her own fleeting security. These choices ultimately lead to a powerful climax that demonstrates the perseverance, faith and resilience of the Filipino spirit, in peace or in war, and regardless of any sacrifice.
Brought to you by playwright Chie Floresca (ABS-CBN writer) and composer Erica Cawagas (ABS-CBN music scorer). This historic Filipino musical will bring tears and laughter to uplift all hearts, whether previously touched or untouched by war.
Emma – The Musical will premiered July 7, 2018 at the Myer Horowitz Theatre of the University of Alberta.
