Pioneered by Jea Cawagas and Mike Lopez, the rondalla group was formed in 1995 and continues today under the music directors Emma Araja, Simeon Ylagan and Cecilia Camba-Macalintal.
Rondalla is a traditional ensemble that is apart of the Philippine history and one of the most revived musical traditional practices of Filipinos. Rondalla consists of indigenous instruments from the Philippines are called Banduria, Laud, and Octavina, and are accompanied by the Acoustic Guitar, Acoustic Bass Guitar, and Drums.
In 2015, Saranay Rondalla started its first 10-week group classes for Children, Youth and Adult new Rondalla players and are taught by Cecilia Camba-Macalintal at the Saranay Centre on Saturdays of September until December. And due to high demands, new to this upcoming fiscal year 2019-2020, we are also accepting new Rondalla players who could register for Saturdays of January until April.
